NUH Charity Fundraisers

A brief history – we're here for you! Nottingham City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre were both world-class organisations in their own right and when they merged a few years ago, their charities merged, as well – creating the NUH Charity, affectionately known as the 'Smile' Charity.

We're hard to miss when you come into either hospital and you can find out more about us through 45 information sites across the Trust. When you're next in for an appointment or visiting a friend or relative, you will undoubtedly see one of our boards asking you to 'raise a smile'. Pick up some information there and find out more about us!

There's a wonderful base of support for both hospitals and your charity exists to manage all your keen endeavours, from skydiving to coffee mornings, and from giving donations through to leaving gifts in your will.

What does your hospital charity do for you?

We hope that it makes your hospital visit or stay more pleasant by providing many extras that would not be supplied by the NHS alone. Our supporters tell us what they would like to support and we ensure that their wishes are met.

This is called 'donor intent' and it is our job to ensure that we meet your needs.

Sometimes we ask you to support areas that we've identified as requiring extra help. That's when we describe what we would hope to achieve through our Appeals.

NUH Charity supports you, our patients, by working with the NUH Trust in four key areas:

  • Patient care and clinical area enhancements
  • Equipment
  • Staff training and education
  • Medical research

Our vision

Our vision is simple: to raise money to spend money – on your behalf. All the money that is raised by the public, or that comes into our Charity through wards and patient areas, goes directly to enhancing your care and we work closely with the NUH Trust.

The hospitals ensure that your needs are met as patients through the NHS, and the Charity ensures that your needs are met as donors, supporters, fundraisers and consumers.
