Breast Cancer Research appeal

NUH Charity’s Breast Cancer Research Appeal has already raised £150,000 to purchase ‘Robbie’s Robot’, a state-of-the-art piece of equipment being used by Professor John Robertson in his battle towards finding an earlier detection of breast and other cancers. But for the work to continue, we need your help…

The hard work and dedication of Nottinghamshire’s volunteer fundraisers and supporters, along with an anonymous donation, has meant that the money to purchase ‘Robbie’s Robot’ has been raised much more quickly than anticipated.

The research study is being led by Professor John Robertson, the ‘Robbie’ in Robot’. Its purpose is to investigate the immune system’s response to various cancers, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer. His work will mean that cancers will be detected four years earlier than when compared with more traditional methods, such as mammography.

Professor Robertson comments: ‘We are excited by the remarkable response we’ve had to this appeal. Patients often ask how they can help support the hospitals’ work, from buying extra items to make their stay more comfortable through to purchasing specialist research equipment like ‘Robbie’s Robot’. We are so appreciative of people’s energy, enthusiasm, generosity of spirit, money and time. Now that the Robot has been purchased, we continue to need essential help to process the information and would urge people to keep on fundraising to support the project.’
