After many years of hard work raising money for NUH Charity, Glenis Poultney has decided to hang up her fundraising boots, and take a well-earned break.
18 years ago Glenis was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Thankfully, an operation to remove the tumour was successful and Glenis survived her ordeal. Having realised how lucky she was to be alive, Glenis decided she wanted to give something back to the hospital where she had been treated.
When her friend was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and sadly died, Glenis felt spurred on to raise money for Breast Cancer related causes in Nottingham.
She began by asking friends and family for donations of unwanted goods which she could sell on stalls at the Coppice Steam Ralley and a local school, along with running tombolas. The funds raised have supported a variety of excellent causes within NUH which relate to Breast Cancer, including the Breast Institute, our Breast Cancer Research Appeal, and a fund for an innovative form of breast reconstruction.
Glenis held her first stall back in 2003 and since then it has got bigger and bigger each year. Now, 6 years on and several thousand pounds later, Glenis has decided it’s time for her to take a break.
On behalf of all the patients who have benefited from her dedication and hard work, NUH Charity would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Glenis and all those who have contributed towards her magnificent fundraising efforts.
