The Bastow Laboratory at the Queen’s Medical Centre campus has received a great boost thanks to a generous donation from the Echo Trust.
The Bastow Lab is NUH Trust’s Paediatric Gastrointestinal Clinical Investigations Unit. The Lab staff perform diagnostic tests to investigate gastrointestinal health problems in children up to the age of 18.
Most of these essential investigations are invasive, which can be a frightening experience for the child and their family. Therefore, one of the key challenges faced by staff is carrying the investigations to a useful completion whilst keeping children comfortable, playful and relaxed.
This is where the Echo Trust came in. After having been approached by NUH Charity regarding some medical equipment requested by the Bastow Lab team, the Echo Trust generously donated £7,600 to buy a number of the items. Thanks to this donation, children being treated for Gastrointestinal problems can now look forward to less invasive treatment, meaning less trauma for young patients and their carers.
The Bastow Lab team are always looking to purchase new DVDs and games to occupy children whilst they are undergoing investigations, as well as small gifts to act as rewards. If you wish to donate to this worthy cause, call Amy Marshall on 0115 9691169 ext. 55935 or donate online.
