Lucie Stevenson and her husband Leighton, have raised a magnificent £1,300 for the Neurology Unit at the Queen’s Medical Centre.
Lucie, 27, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November 2007, just three months after the birth of her son, Alfie. Although the tumour was not cancerous, it was still potentially fatal, and so fast action needed to be taken. Three days after her MRI scan, Lucie was rushed to QMC for a seven hour operation to remove the tumour, which doctors described as the “size of two satsumas”.
The operation was a success and now, just under two years later, Lucie is making a good recovery.
Lucie explained that she and her husband wanted to do something to say thank you to the staff of the Neurology Department for the “wonderful care and support” she received from them during her time there. Lucie and Leighton, cheered on by little Alfie, decided to run the Great Midlands Fun Run at Sutton Coldfield as their way of doing just that.
They initially set themselves a fundraising target of £500 but their total went through the roof after £719 given in sponsorship by friends and family was matched with a £500 donation from Lucie’s employer, Boots.
On behalf of everyone at our Neurology Department, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Stevensons, and wish Lucie a continuing recovery.
