A nursery is holding a Clowning Around Charity Day in aid of Nottingham Children’s Hospital.
Staff at Hollies Day Nursery, in Sherwood, have arranged the event to raise funds for the Clown Doctors that visit Nottingham Children’s Hospital, which is at the Queen’s Medical Centre campus.
The Clown Doctors, who are funded by Nottingham University Hospitals Charity, aim to bring a smile to the faces of sick children. The trained actors perform magic tricks and tell stories to young patients on their weekly visits.
Staff at Hollies Day Nursery hope to raise £3,000 for NUH Charity’s Clown Doctors Appeal at the event, which is on Saturday 24th April.
The charity day takes place from 11am to 1.30pm and includes tea and cake stalls, face painting, a raffle, magic and clowns. Entry costs £2.50 for adults and is free for children, including food.
Drew Pike, joint owner of Hollies Day Nursery, said: “We wanted to do something that was local to Nottingham and a cause that was specifically for children and their families – and could even help children at Hollies if they needed hospital treatment. We visited the hospital while the Clown Doctors were there and the effect they have is incredible.”
Angela Horsley, Lead Nurse for Nottingham Children’s Hospital, said: “It can be daunting for children and young people to have to stay in hospital, but the Clown Doctors really help to put them at ease and bring a smile to their faces. Their presence really brightens up the day for the children.”
