Thanks to a £27,000 NUH Charity grant, a new purpose-built bereavement centre opened in June 2008 at our City Hospital campus.
The centre was officially opened by Alan Clifford from BBC Nottingham, and brings together all the practical things that bereaved families need.
Barbara Cathcart, Director of NUH Charity, says: "The new centre incorporates specially designed rooms and space, offering the best possible care for relatives at what is a very difficult time."
The bereavement centre has been specially designed to distance those who've been bereaved from clinical areas, and gives them access to all the services they might need – so that things like handing over the death certificate and patient's property can happen in a caring, safe and comfortable environment.
Jackie Derbyshire from Kimberley recently visited the centre. She says: "The new site provides a really warm feeling when you arrive."
Nova Townsend, Bereavement Officer, says: "Now we have all the facilities we need to enhance the service we provide to families at a time of great distress. Doctors who use the service have also been really impressed by the new site."
